Sono disponibili i nuovi driver Catalyst 8.4 per schede grafiche ATI Radeon e sistemi operativi Windows XP, Vista e Linux.

Per quanto concerne le versioni per sistemi operativi Microsoft, non ci sono rilevanti novità da segnalare (qui le note di rilascio). AMD ha risolto alcuni problemi con i giochi basati sull’Unreal Engin 3, con Crysis, Lost Planet, Doom 3, Hellgate:London, Company of Heroes, Tabula Rasa e Tomb Raider Anniversary. L’unica integrazione degna di nota è il supporto al nuovo client Folding@Home per GPU della Stanford University - scaricabile da qui in versione beta - e supportato dai prodotti ATI Radeon HD 2400 e superiori e delle schede ATI Radeon HD 3400 e superiori, sia su XP che su Vista. Attualmente, solo uno dei due core ospitati sulla scheda ATI Radeon HD 3870X2 può essere utilizzato da nuovo client.

Il Folding@Home GPU, lo ricordiamo, permette il calcolo distribuito nell’ambito della ricerca proteica e altre dinamiche molecolari. In questo caso, il client sfrutta la vostra GPU ATI per eseguire calcoli più velocemente e, teoricamente, raggiungere i risultati prefissi nel minor tempo possibile.

Infine parliamo dei driver per Linux. Disponibili in versione  x86 e x64, i nuovi driver supportano le schede Radeon HD 3800, 3600 e 3400 (esclusa la 3870 X2) e sono compatibili con le prime versioni di prova di Ubuntu Linux 8.04.

L’aggiornatissimo sito www.pctuner.net annuncia in data odierna che nVidia ha rilasciato i nuovi driver ForceWare 171.16, che aggiungono il supporto alla nVidia GeForce 9600GT di prossima uscita.

AMD/ATI ha rilasciato come ogni mese un nuovo set di driver Catalyst per le proprie schede video Radeon, come notereta dalla versione 7.12 si è passatia alla 8.1, per chi non lo sapesse questo avviene perchè il primo numero sta ad indicare l’anno di appartenenza ed il secondo numero il mese.

I driver introducono molte ottimizzazioni per numerosi giochi, ma la vera novità è che per la prima volta implementano la tecnologia MultiView in abbinamento alle API OpenGL.

AMD/ATI ha anche rilasciato un set di driver dedicato a chi possiede una scheda ATI in versione AGP che risolvono alcuni problemi, e migliora le prestazioni con Crysis in DirectX 10 e Crossfire.

* Enemy Territories Quake Wars v1.2: Flickering is no longer noticed when enabling Triple Buffering, setting AA to 8X and setting the display resolution to 2560×1600.
* TianJi: Logging into the game no longer results in the function buttons not working and the system setting window failing to open.
* World of Warcraft: Launching two game windows and switching between the game windows on a system with an Apple 30 inch display device no longer results in the game image failing to be drawn properly.
* Google SketchUP: the application no longer fails to launch on systems running Windows XP and containing an ATI Radeon HD 2900 series of product.

AMD ha reso disponibile l´ultima release dei driver per GPUs Catalyst 7.12 prima di passare alla serie 8 con l´arrivo del nuovo anno.

I driver migliorano il supporto all´ATI Overdrive sulle schede Radeon HD 2900 Series, fixano i bugs preaenti in Crysis, Dark Messiah, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, F.E.A.R., Hellgate: London, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, World in Conflict ed incrementano del 5% le prestazioni in Company of Heroes DX10 con le schede video ATI Radeon HD38×0 series.

NVIDIA ha distribuito una versione dei propri driver ForceWare che introduce il supporto alle configurazioni Triple SLI. Sono disponibili due versioni per Microsoft Windows Vista dedicate ai sistemi operativi a 32 o 64 bit.

AMD ha rilasciato i nuovi driver compatibili con le schede video Radeon dalla serie 9500 fino alle nuove HD 3800. I Catalyst 7.11,disponibili per Windows XP (32/64 bit) e Vista (32/64 bit), risolvono i seguenti problemi nei giochi:

• Bioshock: Pulling the lever in the chamber no longer results in the game failing.
• Bioshock, Lost Planet, and World In Conflict: Connecting certain dual link display devices to certain ATI Radeon™ 2×00 series of cards no longer results in limited display resolutions being available.
• Call of Juarez: Enabling CrossFire™ no longer results in flickering being noticed when playing the DX10 version of the game.
• Doom 3: Playing the game on a system containing an ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 series of product and running the Windows Vista operating system no longer results in display corruption being noticed when using the console commands.
• Fable: A black ring is no longer seen around the player character.
• Hellgate, Lord of the Rings, PT Boat, and World in Conflict: Corruption is no longer noticed when AA is enabled.
• Rainbow Six Vegas: Setting the display resolution to 1600×1200 and applying the in-game settings to high no longer results in corruption being noticed when using an HDMI display device.
• Roxio Creator Premier v9: MyDVD: Attempting to burn a DVD no longer results in the burn process failing at the encoding preview.
• Serious Sam: the Second Encounter Demo: Game play is no longer delayed when playing the game on a system running Windows XP and containing an ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 series of product.

Il nuovo pannello di controllo implementato nei driver ForceWare Nvidia di ultima generazione molto spesso non piace e non sembra molto intuitivo. Il sito laptopvideo2go.com propone la soluzione per poter avere il vecchio pannello di controllo.

NVIDIA ha presentato i nuovi driver ForceWare 163.75 WHQL certificati per le schede video GeForce FX, 6, 7 e 8 e i sistemi operativi Windows XP e Vista. I nuovi driver migliorano la compatibilità e le prestazioni della tecnologia Nvidia SLI con le applicazioni DirectX 9 e OpenGL. Tra le novità, il supporto alle GPU integrate della gamma 7000:
